Mel was born and grew up in Harare. She worked with the Chemistry and Soil Research Institute at the Ministry of Agriculture until she married, following which she went farming in Macheke and then Trelawney. After sadly being evicted from their home during the farm invasions she moved to the Cape in South Africa with her two daughters before deciding that she missed her country too much and returned to Zimbabwe. She joined VAWZ in 2011.
“I was fortunate enough to meet Meryl Harrison and to be given the opportunity of learning the ropes under her guidance. Despite the challenges facing animal welfare in Zimbabwe, I am very happy to be back and am positive that VAWZ has already made a big difference and will continue to play a major role in the future.”
